Personal Wellness Program

CREATING YOUR PROGRAM

Each of us who is diagnosed with cancer could benefit from a practical, balanced plan to guide us toward healing our lives. You may say, “Well, my cancer diagnosis is considered terminal. Why would I want to waste my time on any plan?” The answer is because you don’t know that you are going to die of cancer. There is an ultimate higher authority other than your oncologist and statistics!

As you know, miracles can happen, which I’ve demonstrated with my own personal story! You don’t know if physical, emotional, mental, creative, and spiritual healing work will help you survive. But I believe it will help you in the advancement of your soul’s evolution. So I ask, “Aren’t you worth the time, energy, and focus to try to heal all parts of your life?”

You are the best creator of your own healing plan. It should be individually geared toward what you think needs healing in your life. A balanced approach is the key. An overall healing tool is the personal wellness program listed on the following pages.

If you feel that you aren’t making any inroads in bettering your physical health, try working on your emotional, mental, spiritual, or creative dimensions to nourish yourself.  After nourishing these other areas, do you feel any less pain in your body? Do you feel a little better, at least in the moment?  Or, if you find yourself stuck in a challenging emotional dark space, put more time and effort into promoting your physical, spiritual, mental, and creative dimensions.  Each time you are faced with a need that is unmet, look at meeting that need either directly in the same dimension or indirectly by balancing all of those areas.  You can eventually incorporate this ideology into your everyday life.

Physically, you could exercise, do yoga, take part in a sport, get a massage, or do some energy work on your body. Spiritually, you could meditate, pray, attend a spiritual ceremony, go to church, go outside to observe nature, or do whatever nurtures your soul.  After you have finished nourishing your many aspects, turn your attention back to your emotional self. Do you feel more encouraged?  Do you feel more enlivened?  Do you feel emotionally stronger?   Do you have a more positive outlook?

There is a creative dimension within you that can be used to promote healing. Anything you can do to tap into your creative force will be of benefit. Any activity done with deep passion, such as painting, sketching, woodcarving, writing, playing a musical instrument, or dancing, can light your creative flame and bring further healing.

You may be in awe of the true healing that can take place when you apply this tool to your wellness program. Even if your body doesn’t heal, you can feel uplifted emotionally and spiritually. Our society, in general, thinks that “healing from cancer” means that you are either successful or you are a failure. I am proposing that we drop that negative judgment and look at which areas of our life need improvement. We can heal emotionally and spiritually, become a forgiving and loving person, and still die from the cancer. Do you see that as a failure? I certainly don’t! I see it as a very outstanding success! Perhaps we all need to reexamine our feelings and attitudes about the concept of “healing” in our lives.

Whatever your personal wellness program entails, please try to include activities that nourish you physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and creatively.  Allow for flexibility based on your changing needs. All of these collective dimensions help support you in being the wonderful person you are!

An example of a personal wellness program chart is available HERE.  In each row, list activities in all five dimensions that would help support your issue in the left column.

Tailor this program to the activities that inspire, nourish, strengthen, and support you.
